Multi-drop Drypoint

Drypoint engraving is an intaglio process traditionally created by scribing lines and other marks directly into a copper plate, then inking, wiping and printing in one pass on the etching press. Day #1. Using plastic plates we will mark the surface with the traditional drypoint tools as well as some non traditional ones, printing the plate in the normal way. We will then play with multiple coloured inkings of the same plate with successive registered passes through the press to create different versions of the drypoint design. Day #2. Having had a week for ‘homework’ we can now apply techniques from day #1 to several new designs….with ‘ADD-ONS’ including chine colle, monotype overlays and multiple plate drypoints. . Featured print: four versions of the same drypoint plate: ‘Mountain, Garden, House, Table’ by Anne Jones

This is a two day workshop Sunday September 22nd and Sunday September 29th 2024 10:00am to 4:00 pm. $240. Includes all materials. For more information or to register for this workshop please email Anne from the CONTACT page.

New ‘Relief’ Ideas

Linoleum, wood, plastic, and vinyl can all be used in relief printing by carving marks into the plate, rolling ink onto the top surface and transferring it to paper by burnishing or passing through a press. The ‘Reduction’ process of successively cutting, inking and printing can produce multi colour prints. So can multi plate printing. So can cutting your plate up into several shapes, inking them separately and then reassembling before pulling the print. So can combining printing your relief plate with other techniques including monotype and chine colle. This is a chance to experiment with some or all of these ideas and practise thinking laterally about your printmaking choices. For example… What if the ‘linoblock’ was TRANSPARENT?' A two day workshop with a week in between for ‘homework’. Featured print: ‘Swallowtail Meadow” (detail) Reduction ‘linoprint’ with monotype overlays by Anne Jones.
