“Release” Monotype - Akua inks on BFK. 22” x 30”
Introduction to Monotype
Level: Beginner. 1 Day workshop
Cost: $85. All materials included.
A Monotype is a unique (one only) print made by transferring ink from one surface (the plate) to another (paper) using pressure (the etching press).
The print maker draws or paints directly on to the plate material (plastic, wood, metal) using brayers or brushes or other mark making tools. The image is then transferred onto paper (or other flat material). Since the plate has no incised or otherwise permanent matrix that can make a repeated mark, the print is unique and cannot be exactly repeated. ( Sometimes a second, lighter impression can be made called a “ghost”)
There are many methods used to make monotypes. Some techniques introduced in this beginner workshop are: Additive Monotype, Subtractive Monotype, Trace Monotype and Plate to Plate offset.
We will use non-toxic Akua inks on 100% cotton waterleaf paper.
